A bystander is being hailed as a hero after two men were rescued from a burning car in the Port Lands area late Friday night.

Two men in their early 20s were driving down Unwin Avenue, south of Lake Shore Boulevard, at around 11:30 p.m. Friday when their vehicle veered off the road and struck a pole.

The vehicle then erupted in flames.

Luckily, a male driver passing by discovered the burning car and was able to drag the two men to safety.

Alcohol did not play a factor in the crash, according to police.
