TORONTO, Ont. – Classes have resumed at Downsview Secondary School after an earlier evacuation, Friday, as officials investigated a chlorine leak in the school’s pool system.
The school is located at 7 Hawksdale Rd., near Keele Street and Wilson Avenue.
There was a power failure earlier in the day, which led to an issue with the shut-off valve for some of the generators related to the pool.
Normally, that would be an automatic shut-off valve, but it didn’t work because of the power failure. It then triggered a flood underneath the school’s pool, which led to a minor leak of some containers carrying the pool chemicals.
The evacuation was more of a precautionary nature due to the student population.
No injuries have been reported.
The pool will be closed for four or five days.
