CALGARY, Alta. – WestJet Airlines has selected Bombardier to supply the propeller aircraft it requires for a new regional service.
The Calgary-based airline said it will take delivery of up to 45 of the Bombardier Q400 planes over the next six years.
There had been some speculation the order could go to a rival of Montreal-based Bombardier.
WestJet expects to have its new service launched in the second half of 2013.
Until now the Calgary-based airline has exclusively used Boeing jets in its fleet.
WestJet said it has placed firm orders for 20 Bombardier Q400s and taken options on 25 others.
