Mark Ruffalo and Cobie Smulders walk the red carpet for the Canadian premiere of “The Avengers”

TORONTO, Ont. – Marvel Comics fans braved the rain to be one of the first to see the superhero packed film “The Avengers.”

The Hulk and Agent Maria Hill, along with some fanboys and girls, marched down the red carpet for the Canadian premiere at Scotiabank Theatre.

Fans cheered as actor Mark Ruffalo, who plays The Hulk, took to the red carpet.

“I love him, he’s my favourite.” Ruffalo told 680News.

He said what intimidated him most about playing the green monster was the fans.

“They have very strong opinions about it and there was a lot of commenting on me playing the hulk. They really care and I wanted to do them right and so I was nervous that I wouldn’t pull it off.”

Bill Bixby along with Lou Ferrigno, Eric Bana and Edward Norton have all played the iconic comic book hero and Ruffalo says his version of the Hulk is all grown up.

“He’s older, he’s been on the road longer, he’s more mature, he’s got a wry sense of humour about himself. I think he’s realy to stop and turn and face this beast that he’s been on the run from,” explained Ruffalo.

The beautiful and talented Cobie Smulders, best known for her role as Robin Scherbatsky on the hit show “How I Met Your Mother,” was also on hand.

Smulders plays Agent Maria Hill and said she is thrilled to be a part of what could be the biggest film of the summer

“It was epic. I’m still pinching myself. I can’t believe that I’m here.”

She added that it was important for her to do as many stunts as she could

“I didn’t get too injured. I got a little bit banged up and bruised but I really wanted to do everything that I could in this film. It was really important for me to feel like I was capable of almost all the things that Maria Hill could do. There was such a great feeling of accomplishment when I did it and I did it well,” explained Smulders.

The Avengers also stars Robert Downey Jr, Samuel L Jackson, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth and Gwyneth Paltrow.
