The House of Commons speaker should have more power to crack down on misbehaving members, NDP house leader Nathan Cullen has suggested.

According to Cullen, the actions of some MPs are embarrassing and instead they should be setting a good example.

“Canadians can no longer come into the House of Commons or see it on television and be embarrassed by the conduct of their elected representatives,” Cullen said.

This is not the first time the NDP have called for greater powers to the speaker.
