On his last full day in Ottawa, the Dalai Lama indicated to a crowd of supporters that he still believes a century of peace is possible.

It was the only public appearance by the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader during his visit to Canada.

He said that although the twentieth century was full of bloodshed and violence, if we plan with vision and determination we can make this one a century of peace.

The 77-year-old spiritual leader also touched on the brief meeting he had with Prime Minister Stephen Harper, praising the P.M. for balancing the issues of economic ties with China against Canadian democratic principles.

Harper had irritated China in the past when he met publicly with the Dalai Lama, while this time he received come criticism for keeping the meeting private.
