Commuters in Toronto could be facing road tolls in the future.
Toronto city councillor Josh Matlow has posed tolls or a Toronto sales tax as a way to help fund transit in the city.
One idea is for commuters to pay for using the Don Valley Parkway and the Gardiner Expressway.
However, one trade group does not agree.
“Its another tax on drivers,” Frank Notte from the Trillium Automobile Dealers Association (TADA) said. “Some politicians use drivers as easy targets to pay for their overspending.”
TADA represents a third of all new car dealers in Canada. They estimate Ontario drivers already pay $15-billion a year in taxes and fees associated with owning a vehicle.
