Quebec police arrest man in alleged threat against cabinet minister

MONTREAL – Quebec police say they have arrested a man in connection with an alleged Internet threat against a provincial cabinet minister.
Provincial police say two other investigations are also underway involving alleged threats against two ministers.
Spokesman Claude Denis says a 33-year-old man was arrested overnight Wednesday night in Montreal.
He was released pending a promise to return to court at a later date.
Denis refused to discuss the exact nature of the alleged threats, other than to say they were ”aimed at their physical being.”
He refused to name the ministers in question, but some media identified them as Education Minister Line Beauchamp and Justice Minister Jean-Marc Fournier.
”I can’t confirm the names of those who are concerned,” Denis said in an interview. ”It’s two ministers but I cannot give you the names.”
Beauchamp has been the focal point of student anger in Quebec in recent months as thousands of protesters continue their fight against government plans to hike tuition fees.
The Charest government wants to increase the fees by $325 annually over the next five years to bring them to about $3,800 a year.
