Discount airline Direct Air is suspending flights for the next two months, leaving many passengers stranded.

The airline serves 17 cities and is a popular airline with Canadians looking for inexpensive flights in the United States.

Connie MacDonald, who lives in Kitchener, Ont., and purchased tickets to fly out of Buffalo, N.Y., told 680News she has been left scrambling.

“We actually just found out (Tuesday). I was at work and started hearing reports on Twitter, on the news, that Direct Air was cancelling flights, and it wasn’t until I think about 1 p.m. (Tuesday) or so that I found out that they’ve cancelled all flights until May,” said MacDonald.

The woman and her family were heading to Florida in two days.

The Toronto Star reported some stranded passengers have been told by Direct Air to contact their credit card company for refunds.

The private carrier was grounded when it missed a fuel payment.

Direct Air hopes to be up and flying again in mid-May.
