“The Real Jerk” restaurant wins court injunction to temporarily prevent eviction

TORONTO, Ont. – Owners of the Caribbean restaurant The Real Jerk have won a court injunction to temporarily prevent their eviction.

They announced on Twitter, Wednesday night, that the landmark restaurant at Queen Street West and Broadview Avenue will remain in that location for at least one year.

The judges order states “the landlord is restrained from re-entry or otherwise interfering with the tenant’s quiet enjoyment of the premises pending trial or further order of the court.”

The building’s new owner Buckingham Properties had ordered the restaurant’s owners Ed and Lilly Pottinger to vacate the premises by January 31.

Mr. Pottinger argued that had only given him one month to fin a new home for his restaurant, which has been at the same corner since 1989.
