Oakville murder victim died of stab wounds, post-mortem shows

A post-mortem exam has determined an Oakville woman found dead Thursday died of multiple stab wounds.

Police confirmed Katherine Newman, 43, was estranged from her husband Kyle Newman, also 43.

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit confirmed Halton police shot and killed Kyle outside of 20 Division.

Katherine was found her Oakville townhome a few kilometres away.

She is being remembered as a giving person. A family friend told CityNews the mother of three also volunteered at a nearby school.

On Twitter, friends called her death a tragic ending. She was reportedly going through a divorce and had called police on her estranged husband several times.

Halton police are calling her death suspicious and said they are not looking for a suspect.

It began with a police shooting at the District 20 police station in Oakville just before noon on Thursday.

A man driving a rented car was ramming into a vehicle in the police parking lot. When officers responded, there was an altercation, and the man was shot and killed by police.

Not long after that, the woman was found dead in her townhome in a quiet neighbourhood near 4th Line and Oak Walk Drive
