First homicide of the year, 20-year-old man shot in city’s east end

TORONTO, Ont. – Toronto has it’s first homicide of the year after a 20-year-old man was shot dead on a street near Malvern Town Centre.

CityNews has identified him as Jamal Franklin.

Franklin was pronounced dead on the scene around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday after being shot four times on Hupfield Trail, near Neilson Road and Finch Avenue.

There has been no word on any suspects or motive for the shooting.

Last year the city saw the lowest number of murders since 1986, with 45 people killed.
