Cavalcade of Lights to set the city aglow Saturday night

TORONTO, Ont. – The city will be aglow this weekend with the 45th annual Cavalcade of Lights celebration at Nathan Phillips Square.

The month-long festivities kick-off, 7 p.m. Saturday, with welcoming remarks from CityTV’s Kevin Frankish, followed by the lighting of the city’s official Christmas tree.

Thousands of LED lights will be used to illuminate Nathan Phillips Square and the tree.

Presented by Scotiabank, the event will also feature music performances by Jarvis Church, JRDN and more, and a fireworks display at 8 p.m.

After the fireworks, a skating party will follow until 10 p.m. on the Nathan Phillips Square rink. Champion figure skater Jamie Salé will also be on-hand before the tree lighting, signing autographs at the Burt’s Bees tent.

Several roads will closed in the area during part of the celebration.

Road closures between 6:45 p.m., and 10 p.m.:

  • Bay Street , from Queen Street West to Dundas Street
  • Hagerman Street, from Elizabeth Street to Bay Street
  • Elizabeth Street, from Dundas Street to Hagerman Street
  • Albert Street, from Bay Street to James Street
  • James Street, from Queen Street West to Albert Street
