TORONTO, Ont. – Occupy Toronto protesters are in the midst of setting up several tents at Queen’s Park Saturday.

Members of the occupy movement told CityNews the new spot could replace St. James Park as homebase for the demonstration.

“As a backup to St. James we would occupy a provincial land, Queen’s Park, which is not run by the city, but the province,” said one occupier.

Protesters say they expect more tents to appear on the legislature grounds as the day unfolds.

Some have commented on the ground at St. James Park getting mushy and muddy, claiming Queen’s Park provides a better, flatter surface.

The move comes after City Manager Joe Pennachetti said earlier this week that the city would move forward with “appropriate steps” beginning next week. It’s unclear, however, what these steps are or what this could actually mean.
