TORONTO, Ont. – It’s smooth going again on Bayview Avenue between John Street and Steeles Avenue in Markham.
All lanes of the road have been reopened following a watermain break on Nov. 4 that created a huge sinkhole.
The watermain has been repaired and the road has been repaved.
The sinkhole, which was the size of a bus, went right down the centre of Bayview Avenue. A watermain running under the road burst, and the rushing water caused the strip of pavement to cave in.
The affected pavement was buckled in spots, completely caved in, and in other spots, as wide as a bus and over 100 metres long.
