Grey Cup parade route announced

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – We now know the route this year’s Grey Cup parade will take. It won’t be going anywhere near the Occupy Vancouver protest.

Much like with the Rogers Santa Claus Parade, organizers are steering well clear of the Art Gallery where the protesters are camped out.

Earlier this month the city told Santa Clause Parade organizers to pick a new route because of the protest.

Scott Ackles, who heads up the Grey Cup festivities, says that wasn’t the case for his event.

“We’ve had the same route planned for well over three or four months. It’s always been planned to go right down Burrard.  A lot of the marching bands and entertainment that’s going to be incorporated into the parade finishes off to culminate at the Vancouver Sun Fan Fest at the Nissan Family Zone where we’ll have the main stage.”

The route begins at Smithe at Hornby and turns right on Burrard before making its way toward the waterfront and ending at Jack Poole Plaza.

The Grand Marhsal is Glee star Cory Monteith while Rick Hansen will serve as Honorary Grand Marhsal on November 26th.

Organizers are expecting 125,000 people.
