Purchasing Starbucks beverages from your iPhone

Don’t have cash for that Starbucks Grande Latte? Well, guess what? There’s an app for that now.

A Seattle-based company has announced that there is an app for Apple mobile phones that can now handle purchases.

Canadians can pay for their favourite Starbucks treats with the scan of an iPhone, which accesses a preloaded account.

Using the app also makes customers eligible for “My Starbucks Rewards” awards including; free birthday drinks, coffee and tea refills, and flavoured syrups for drinks.

680News went to the Starbucks cafe downtown Toronto, at Yonge Street and College Street and spoke to some customers there. One man said, “I love to do everything on one device as opposed to going through my wallet. I like the convenience of it basically.”

The majority of customers agreed with the convenience of the app, except for one girl who told 680News, “I really think about the dependability, if it gets stolen, how does that work? It’s frightening, it’s new and so much to take in.”

Starbucks hopes to expand the app to BlackBerry and Android devices in the coming months and hope the convenience expands their sales.

The mobile payment platform was rolled out in Starbucks stores in the United States, earlier this year.
