Driver charged after Ottawa pedestrian killed; woman hit near Byward Market

OTTAWA – A 26-year-old man has been charged with criminal negligence causing death after a woman was struck and killed in Ottawa.

The 27-year-old woman was crossing St. Patrick Street at Cumberland Street early Saturday when she was hit by a car.

Police say the driver of the car was arrested at the scene and taken into custody.

The man is also charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and failing to provide a breath sample to police.
