Former judo instructor charged in sexual assault investigation

TORONTO, Ont. – Toronto police have charged a 71-year-old Cambridge man with sexual assaulting one of his students while he was a judo instructor in Etobicoke several years ago.

Police allege that from the mid-1980s until the early 1990s, John Jakab, who worked as a judo instructor at the Shin Bu Kan Judo Club in Etobocoke, sexually assaulted a female student on several occasions.

The man has not been employed at the club, which operated at the Etobicoke Olympium, since 1992.

Jakab also worked as a judo instructor in other places, including Mississauga Parks and Recreation, and in Cambridge, Ontario.

Police believe there may be more victims.

Jakab has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching.
