Severe single-vehicle crash on QEW leaves one man dead

TORONTO, Ont. – A severe single-vehicle crash left one man dead Thursday morning on the westbound Queen Elizabeth Way in Mississauga.

The driver, a 43-year-old Mississauga man, was rushed to hospital where he died. Police say he was the only person in the car.

The Ontario Provincial Police collision reconstruction crew examined the inside of the silver Toyota RAV4.

Sergeant Dave Woodford told 680News police know exactly what caused the huge hole in the windshield and hit the driver but they do not want to make it public because it could taint witness accounts of the crash.

He said something bounced up from the road and hit the car.

Investigators want to hear from anyone who may have seen anything.

“Debris on the roadway or if it came off of the vehicle. Sometimes a little bit of information helps us piece together the larger part of the investigation.” Woodford said.

The crash had caused a closure but now all lanes on the westbound QEW are open between Hurontario and Erin Mills Parkway.
