Construction continues at Ripley’s Toronto aquarium

Construction is underway to build an aquarium nestled between the CN Tower and Rogers Centre.

The $130-million project by Ripley’s officially broke ground Wednesday.

It’s designed to lure schools of tourists to Toronto and is set to open in June 2013.

People will be able to see 40 species of fish, including sharks, but no great whites.

The project is generating 600 jobs and millions in tax money for all three levels of government.

“Toronto is recognized around the world by the iconic CN Tower, so it’s fitting that our newest tourist attraction will be located right here at the base of the tower,” Mayor Rob Ford said.

The aquarium is one of the largest in North America, with a capacity of 5.7-million litres, room for 13,000 marine inhabitants.
