Two Oakville residents charged with benefit fraud

TORONTO, Ont. – An investigation by the Halton Regional Police Service Fraud Unit has concluded with two Oakville residents facing multiple fraud-related charges.

The investigation began after police received a complaint that the accused was collecting an Ontario Disability Support benefit under a fictitious name. It is alleged he was also collecting a housing subsidy while leasing an apartment in Oakville.

The investigation revealed that the amount of fraud totalled more than $100,000.

In both cases, police noted the charges related to documents provided to both the housing and disability agency. The fraud charges are a result of the two accused not declaring their full income when they applied for government assistance.

Joseph Stevens Boudreau, 56, is facing charges of fraud over $5,000, utter forged document, make false application and perjury. His co-accused, Ula Boudreau, 51, is facing two counts of fraud over $5,000 and perjury.

Both will be appearing in a Milton court on August 16.
