BC leads in cross-border and online back to school spending

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Moms and dads are making their lists and checking them twice with back to school just over a month away.

A study commissioned by VISA finds parents in this province will be spending $251 on average online for back to school – compared to $240 dollars in the rest of Canada.

VISA Canada’s Stephanie Wallat runs down what people are spending that money on:

“Clothing and travel for those that are going away to school, and then of course school supplies comes in third, followed by computers, software, that kind of thing, and footwear.”

British Columbians also do more of their back-to-school shopping across the border – 21 per cent of us – compared to 15 per cent elsewhere in the country.

“It could be the proximity to the US in that it’s an easy drive across the border and they take advantage of that,” said Wallat.
