TORONTO, Ont. – Hundreds of cyclists are taking part in the 13th annual Friends for Life Bike Rally on Sunday.

The cyclists left Toronto Sunday at 9 a.m. for Montreal and will be cycling 600 kilometres over several days en route Montreal.

Cory Garlough told 680News that they are hoping to raise $1.4-million for the Toronto People with Aids Foundation.

“It is a fantastic event. It is 6 days, over 600 kilometres , over 300 riders and a crew of over 100 people all together traveling from Toronto to Montreal, raising the much needed funds for the Toronto Peoples with AIDS Foundation.,” said Garlough.

Over the past twelve years, nearly $8-million has been raised.

“There are two things that have an emotional connection. One is raising the funds for the Toronto People with AIDS Foundation.”

“… But the second, which is equally as important, is to reduce the stigma attached with HIV and AIDS,” said Garlough.

Sherri Byer, co-chair of the event, is also taking part in the 600 kilometres journey.

“Today we will ride 120 kilometres to Fort Hope. We will camp in a farmer’s field in Fort Hope, he hosts us every year. He clears out a couple of fields and makes room for us.”

“We will get up tomorrow morning and we will do 126 kilometres to Adoluphustown on Monday.”
