LONDON, Ont. – Ontario tourists involved in a fiery bus crash in New York state early Friday have started returning home.

Jeff Shaughnessy says he went to pick up his in-laws at the bus station in Hamilton at around 10:30 p.m. Friday night and they are now resting at home in London, Ont.

He estimates there were about 20 people who arrived on the bus.

All 52 passengers and the driver who were on the bus that caught fire Friday at around 1:30 a.m. made it out alive.

Shaughnessy says other travellers who were more severely injured are either still in hospital in New York state or were flown home.

Police say the tour bus carrying the passengers caught fire after it attempted to merge back onto the highway and was struck by a tractor-trailer. The U.S. truck driver died in the crash.
