TDSB vending machines to stop supplying pop this fall

TORONTO, Ont. – The Toronto District School Board has given pop the boot in favour of more healthier drinks.

Starting this fall, a small Rexdale company will fill many machines with water, milk, 100 per cent fruit juices and vegetable cocktails.

Parents may like the idea, but will children drink these new offerings? That’s the question the TDSB will now deal with.

These new drinks are part of an effort to fight childhood obesity. Queen’s Park has introduced new school rules starting this fall that ban the sale of pop and other sugary offerings like sports and energy drinks.

Critics said keeping pop out of schools will keep it out of children, but that they could just as easily get it at a corner store.
