BMO surveys what businesses people would open if given the money

TORONTO, Ont. – If you had $1-million what you do?

A new BMO Bank of Montreal survey asked people what kinds of business they would open if they had that kind of money.

However, many people told 680News that opening a business was not on their list of things they would spend their newly acquired fortune on.

The majority of people said that a vacation ranked number one.

“I think I would quit my job, get up and go to India. That’s what I would do first I think,” one woman told 680News.

“A vacation, a donation and investments,” one man told 680News.

However some people said family would come first and then a little rest.

“Invest it, I’d help my kids through a good education and with the rest I’d probably go on a nice vacation,” said one man.

But when asked if they would consider spending the cash on a business one man said, in this economy, he would rather stay where he is.

“(It’s)Too risky, I have a good job, I work for a bank and it’s a steady income so I’d probably stick with that.”

One man told 680News he would be interested in starting his own business simply for the joy of being his own boss, while another said he would consider it but he was not sure what kind of business he would start.

The BMO survey found that the top choice for a start up business would be a boutique or specialty store followed by a franchise.  Starting an online business ranked third.
