Gold scam discovered in Quebec

MONTREAL, Q.C. – A massive gold-refining scam that conned the quebec and federal treasuries has been discovered.

A network involving more than 100 companies in the fraud scheme is responsible for alleged sales tax evasion of more than 150 million dollars in quebec alone, with total sales reaching 1.8 billion dollars.

The alleged scam is based on an accounting sleight of hand regarding tax rebates on sales of refined scrap gold that never existed.

The network involved faces penalties from paying the amount owed plus interest, and a maximum jail term of five years.
