Jury finds men not guilty in Manners trial

TORONTO, Ont. – The jury in the Jordan Manners trial has found two men not guilty of first-degree murder.

The pair, who can only be identified as C.D. and J.W. because they were 17 at the time of the murder, were accused of killing Manners inside his school in 2007.

This was the second trial for both men. The first trial ended in a hung jury.

Both of the accused had pleaded not-guilty to first-degree murder.

The two men have spent the last four years in custody and their defence lawyer told 680News there has been a lot of pain and suffering on both sides.

“You can have an investigation that is so tunnel visioned that it rests on two persons who had always said that they were friends with the person that  had passed away.  So I would say that consolidation or at least the idea of feeling sympathy should definitely go both ways. These individuals have lost a lifetime at such an early age,” he said.

The defence argued that there had been no robbery and that the gun went off accidentally.

Jordan’s mother was not in court to hear the reading of the verdict.

The Crown told 680News that they will respect the decision and will not appeal the verdict.

Manners was shot and killed inside C.W. Jefferys Collegiate Institute on May 23, 2007.
