Bell sends rebate cheques in mail

ONTARIO – Some Bell home phone customers can expect to receive a cheque in the mail for $67.41.

All customers who were using Bell for their residential land lines on August. 31, 2010 are eligible for the rebate.

The CRTC directed the company to issue the rebates after Bell overcharged customers from 2002 to 2007.

In order to encourage more competition in the home phone service sector, the CRTC had told Bell not to reduce its prices in urban areas during that period.

Bell set aside the amount it overcharged to improve services to people with disabilities and to expand broadband service, and the remainder was slated for the rebates.

The Windsor Star reports that the Eligible Bell customers should receive their cheques by the end of March.
