No minimum wage raise in Ontario this year

TORONTO, Ont. – Ontario will not raise minimum wage in 2011 for the first time since the Liberals came to power in 2003.

Premier Dalton McGuinty said Friday that Ontario’s minimum hourly wage of $10.25 is already the highest in Canada.

McGuinty’s Liberals increased wages seven times in seven years, but business are only now beginning to recover from the recession.

Earlier this week, the Canadian Federation of Independent Business warned that raising the wage would kill jobs.
