Dawn Black: the BC NDP is back on track

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The BC NDP has selected New Westminster MLA Dawn Black as the party’s new interim leader. She was ratified by the party’s provincial council on Thursday.

Black was speaking live with News1130 earlier today and says she is encouraged by the unanimous support of caucus. “I think we are back on track. We’re going to be working hard to hold the BC Liberal government to account for all of the abysmal decisions and their very poor record for standing up for people of British Columbia.”

As far as the most recent controversy over the way new party memberships were handled, Black says she has utmost confidence the party will ensure proper process is observed. “All of the memberships that have come in, each [of them] is going to be verified, each one is going to be examined to ensure that it’s been filled out in the correct manner.”

She says despite the internal dissent sparked by Carole James’s resignation, the New Democratic party membership has more than doubled in the last couple of months.

Black says she is not running for the top party job herself because of family commitments.
