Many across Canada at risk of becoming homeless: New study

TORONTO, Ont. – New research out of Toronto, Ottawa and Vancouver suggests that for every homeless Canadian, another 23 are at risk of being forced onto the streets.

Approximately 400,000 people are living in unaffordable, crowded and unsafe conditions across the country, many of which suffer from mental illness, hunger and chronic health problems.

The Research Alliance for Canadian Homelessness, Housing and Health said the “vulnerably housed” suffer from the same ailments as homeless people, and that this “hidden emergency” is being ignored.
