Toronto Marathon on Sunday, road closures to note

TORONTO, Ont. – For the second time in three weeks, another marathon takes over the city.

The GoodLife Fitness Toronto Marathon will be held on Sunday, and there are road closures to note.

About 14,000 people will take part in this race.

The full marathon starts at 9 a.m., while the half marathon starts at 8 a.m. They both commence behind Mel Lastman Square and end at Queen’s Park. The 5K starts at 8 a.m. from Queen’s Park and the relay begins at 9:20 a.m. from Mel Lastman Square.

The main segment of the race will take place on Yonge Street, from Finch Avenue to Bloor Street, but many other roads will be affected.

“The route does actually clear pretty fast and because we are on the subway line, and Yonge Street is sort of the spine of our course, people can still obviously use the subway, but the roads clear fast,” Toronto Marathon race director Jay Glassman told 680News.

But, this is the final year the Waterfront and Toronto marathons will take place within three weeks of each other.

“Bear with us, next year we are moving. We have agreed to move to the spring, to May, so you will not be impacted by events that are only three weeks apart,” Glassman said.

680News meteorologist Jill Taylor said it will be cloudy on Sunday and about 8C at race time.
