Cops warn Durham residents of art scam

Police in Durham Region are warning residents about a fake art scam.

In September investigators said there were several reports of individuals going door to door in the neighbourhoods of Brooklin, Bowmanville and Peterborough  posing as Israeli art students.

These “so-called” students would then attempt to sell homeowners original oil paintings.

They misrepresented the paintings as ‘one-of-a kind’ and would ask for hundreds of dollars for them.

However, the art is actually mass-produced oil paintings from China worth about $15.

At this point, there are no suspect descriptions.

Anyone with new information about this investigation is asked to call police immediately.
