Federal Government Will Match Pakistan Flood Donations Dollar For Dollar

OTTAWA – The federal government says it will match private donations for Pakistan flood aid.

Government House leader John Baird says donations for flood aid made between Aug. 2 and Sept. 12 will be matched, dollar for dollar, by federal money.

Similar programs helped spur donations for last winter’s Haitian earthquake and the 2004 tsunami.

The federal government has already earmarked $33 million for Pakistan.

Flooding in Pakistan has displaced millions of people and the United Nations has asked the international community for an initial contribution of $460 million.

American authorities have said it will cost billions to rebuild once the floods ebb.
