Deadly lead up to National Drowning Prevention Week

TORONTO, Ont. – The weekend leading up to National Drowning Prevention Week was a deadly one for swimmers in Ontario pools.

On Saturday, a two and a half year old girl drowned in North Toronto, after managing to get by a fence around the backyard pool.

The same day, a 17 year old boy was pulled from a pool without vital signs at the Travelodge Hotel in Niagara Falls. Paramedics were unable to revive him.

The Life Saving Society said a total of 43 people have drowned in Ontario since May 1, which is four more than the same time last year.
