McGuinty never wants to see a G20 summit in Toronto again

No more G20 summits in Toronto. Ever.

That’s the blunt message from Premier Dalton McGuinty when he was asked about hosting another gathering of world leaders in the city.

McGuinty said if the Prime Minister sat down and asked to hold another summit of world leaders in the city, McGuinty would tell him, “we’ve been there, we’ve done that.”

McGuinty said global leaders need to meet, but Toronto’s inhabitants were psychologically scarred by the summit protests, which saw police cruisers set on fire and windows smashed.

It led to a police crackdown and about 1,000 arrests — what’s believed to be the largest mass arrest in Canadian history.

Meanwhile, The Toronto Police G20 investigative team has released more images of the criminal acts by some of the protesters hoping the public can help identify them. You can see those photos here.

Police are also again appealing for more pictures and video from anyone at the protests. People can submit photos and videos here.

Civil rights groups have been calling for an independent inquiry into the mass detention of people and widespread use of police force during the summit.

The vast majority of those detained were released without charge within 24 hours but about 250 people still face charges and more than a dozen remain in custody.
