Israel military seizes aid ship and protestors hit the street

JERUSALEM – Israel military boarded another Gaza-bound aid ship.

The motor vessel, Rachel Corrie, carrying nine thousand tons of building materials, was seized peacefully 35 kilometres off the Gaza coast, CNN reports.

The ship, carrying 19 people, had been heading for Gaza in defiance of Israeli blockade.

The seizure came five days after nine people were killed when Israeli forces violently boarded another ship attempting to reach Gaza.

The ship will be towed to Ashdod, Israel where the cargo will be off-loaded and screened.

Protests are expected to continue on Saturday in front of the Israeli embassy on Bloor Street. Protesters have condemned the violent boarding of the aid ship last Monday and have called on Israel and the Harper government to take a stand and end the blockade of Gaza.

Similar rallies have been planned in Halifax,  Montréal, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver.
