Facebook rolls out easier controls over privacy settings

TORONTO – Facebook users will now be able to access advanced settings, in order to further customize exactly what is shared, and how widely that information is shared.

The new changes will also allow users to easily opt out of applications they are connected to, preventing all personal information from being passed along.

Facebook’s founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg decided to make the changes after users complained about being confused by the controls.

“The number one thing we’ve heard, is that there just need to be simpler ways to control your information. We agree,” Zuckerberg told reporters at the U.S. news conference.

“In one click, you can set all the content that you’ve ever posted. There’s no need to go through multiple settings anymore,” Zuckerberg said, saying there will be a ‘master control’ over all settings.

Some users may already notice the changes the next time they log into the popular social networking site. However, others may not see it for a few days, or for as long as a week.

A link will appear on users’ pages with more information on the new changes.

Facebook has over 400 million users world wide – a large number of those are Canadians.
