Over 80 per cent of Canadians watch hockey each week: survey

TORONTO, Ont. – Canadians are more in love with hockey than ever.

A new survey by MasterCard found 83 per cent of Canadians watch hockey every week.

Many spend more than four hours glued to their television sets.

Former Toronto Maple Leaf Wendel Clark told 680News hockey is in our blood.

“As a country, we’re very good at the game, which makes it fun to watch,” Clark said.

The survey also showed 10 per cent of working Canadians take time out of their busy schedules each week to hit the ice for fun.

“People try to stay active and that’s one of the ways that they can stay active,” Clark said.

This comes as the most anticipated hockey matchup in years gets underway, Wednesday night.

Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins are hosting the Montreal Canadiens in game seven of the NHL Eastern Conference final.
