Fox cancels “24” after eight seasons

It looks like time has run out on 24.

Fox has decided to pull the plug on the political thriller at the end of its eighth season.

The decision was made after ratings began to slip.

In a statement, the star of the series, Canadian Kiefer Sutherland, said 24 was the “role of a lifetime” and he wanted to “fully express appreciation to everyone who made it possible.”

However, there is a silver lining for fans of the series as plans are in the works for a big screen version of the show.

The two-hour series finale is slated to air on May 24.
