Volkswagen Golf GTI named 2010 Canadian Car of the Year

The Volkswagen Golf GTI has been named the 2010 Canadian Car of the Year by the Automotive Journalists Association of Canada.

The Golf GTI beat out two other finalists, the BMW 335D Diesel Sedan and the Volkswagen Golf Wagon Diesel.

The award of Canadian Car of the Year is the culmination of intense vehicle testing by 70 of the country’s top automotive journalists, which took place last fall at Niagara on the Lake.

Meanwhile, the Subaru Outback has been named the 2010 Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year, beating out the Lexus RX 4-50h and the Volkswagen Touareg Clean Diesel.

The Canadian Car of the Year award is the culmination of intense vehicle testing by 70 of the country’s top automotive journalists, which took place last fall at Niagara on the Lake.

The Canadian International AutoShow opens to the public on Friday at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
