Halifax police reviewing 1992 murders for links to military commander

Police in Halifax are looking into whether three unsolved murders may be connected to Colonel Russell Williams, the former base commander at CFB Trenton, who is charged with murder and sex assault in Ontario.
Col. Williams was based at CFB Shearwater, in Nova Scotia, in the early 1990’s.
Halifax Police Chief Frank Beazley told 680News sister station News 95.7, his investigators will take a look at three unsolved murders that took place at that time.
“Those cases would still be a part of the cold case unit and obviously we would take a second look” said Chief Beazley.
The department has been in touch with Ontario police but so far nothing yet to indicate any connection to the Colonel to the unsolved murders.
According to reports in The Globe and Mail, Russell Williams, the powerful colonel accused of murdering two women and sexually assaulting two others in eastern Ontario, appears to have confessed to the crimes of which he is accused.
The decorated career military officer gave police a lengthy statement detailing about four dozen so-called “lingerie break-ins” and reportedly led detectives to the body of 27-year-old Jessica Lloyd.
Williams is also charged with the murder of 38-year-old Corporal Marie-France Comeau.
The Globe and Mail has reported Williams allegedly posed and photographed his sex assault victims before stealing lingerie.
Sources told The Globe Williams’ computer is expected to yield a treasure trove of evidence.
A next-door neighbour of Williams who was initally considered a suspect in the murders of two women told The Star police were looking for very specific items as part of their investigation.
He said police showed him a search warrant for La Senza bras, Jessica brand panties, computers, laptops and digital photography.
Police conducted a brief search of Williams’ Ottawa home yesterday and were seen leaving with a few items.
Two officers left the home with a red leather woman’s purse and two shopping bags before looking through the blue BMW in the driveway.
