United Way raises record $109-million in 2009

Despite the recession, the United Way Toronto raised a record $109-million last year.

This year’s target was $107.5-million and there were doubts they could raise that much money given the financial hard times.

CEO Frances Lankin credits the unparalleled generosity of Torontonians and hard work of volunteers.

In York region, the United Way raised a record $7.6-million last year.

That is almost three per cent more than the money they raised in 2008.
