Cupe local President hopes continued efforts will stop workers from striking

Another effort will be made tomorrow to head off a possible pre-Christmas strike at the John C. Munro International Airport in Hamilton, used for a number of domestic flights and charters. This after the industrial relations board imposed an essential services agreement which provides minimal firefighting and other services at the airport. Cupe local President Darren Vernon says if there’s no agreement tomorrow, the sides can either call a strike or impose a lockout within 72 hours. Vernon says he’s optimistic an agreement can be reached. The 35 workers have been without a new agreement for more than a year.
